Meet our Clinical Nurse Specialists

We are a small team of Clinical Nurse Specialists (CNS) who work closely to provide high quality of care and support to those patients with an eye cancer diagnosis. The work can be extremely demanding with responsibility to our patients to ensure that they receive the gold standard of care that is expected from our service.

Our advanced knowledge about various eye cancers means that we can support patients from diagnosis and through any planned surgery and/or treatment. We can help to alleviate stress and anxiety to ensure the care pathway of each patient is managed effectively. The CNS works hard to ensure questions and concerns are addressed and can liaise with GP’s and refer patients to local support services if required.

The CNS can offer Holistic Needs Assessments to enable the patient to have protected time when the chance will be given to discuss their main concerns.

The CNS will offer advice with possible referral to patients GP’s or local cancer support services if necessary to assist with health and wellbeing needs. An individual care plan will be compiled which is sent to the patient and their GP, improving communication to allow for referral to appropriate cancer support services.

CNS’s play a vital role within the wider multi-disciplinary team acting as the patient’s advocate. They can educate patients to prepare and optimise their treatment and/or surgery, being the main point of contact to help manage patient expectations in the delivery of an efficient cancer service.

The CNS will be an important contact following treatment to offer on-going advice and support. We care about our patients and try hard to maintain our high standard of care. The safety and wellbeing of our patients is paramount. We feel very privileged to be in positions of trust helping to navigate our patients through difficult times and complex treatments.

Orbital Clinical Nurse Specialist

My role as the orbital clinical nurse specialist is to provide specialised support to patients with orbital disease, including cancer. My role is similar to that of the ocular oncology nurses and patients may find that their diagnosis requires a combined approach from both services.
