Anatomy of the Eye
The eye is a very complex organ with several layers that may give rise to tumours.
Surface of the eye (front of the eye):
-
Conjunctiva - is a moist membrane that covers the surface of the eye and lines the eyelids
Intraocular (inside the eye):
-
Uveal tract – consists of the iris, ciliary body (found behind the iris) and the choroid. The choroidal provides most of the blood supply to the retina, the sensitive film in the back of the eye. Most tumours develop in the uveal tract
Possible Diagnosis
In our Ocular Oncology clinic, we see a variety of eye conditions with only approximately 50% of patients diagnosed with an eye tumour requiring treatment. The information below tells you more about the common possible outcomes and diagnoses of your visit.
